Our members Anna Ševčíková and Gabriela Gore-Gorszewska attended the conference of The European Society for Sexual Medicine (ESSM) in Vienna. The ESSM aims to promote sexual health and the highest standards of evidence-based clinical care in sexual medicine through education, research and health care formulation.

At the conference, Anna presented the results of her study that examined the link between lack of experience with partnered sex and problematic pornography use among young adults (18-25 years old) in the Czech Republic. The results showed that the absence of partner sexual experience is not a risk factor for more frequent pornography viewing or the development of a sexual disorder. Problematic pornography use was more common among men, non-heterosexual persons, those with religious beliefs and those who masturbate frequently. The study also suggests that higher scores on tests for pornography addiction in religious individuals may be related to a conflict between their moral values and their actual behavior.

Gabi presented the results of a research study focused on how late middle-aged (50-64) adults perceive and address sexual health issues. The results suggest that these people show limited efforts to seek information and support around sexual health related issues. Thus, the results may serve as recommendations for health service providers to be more proactive in promoting access to sexual health among late middle-aged adults.
