Relationships and Personality in Adolescence and Early Adulthood
In Adolescence and Early Adulthood we carry out long-term research of various aspects of mental and social development in adolescence and in the transition to adulthood. We study how a personality forms, what influence cognitive, emotional and social characteristics have on shaping one’s relationship to oneself, e.g. shaping one’s identity, perception of self, self-evaluation, autonomy, life satisfaction well-being, personal perspective and values, how these factors change and what importance interpersonal relationships have in this process. Our research is longitudinal and cross-sectional, combining quantitative and qualitative research.
Projects
The Adolescent Experience: Young Czechs after and during social change (ADOL2019)
Our research interest focuses on the process of individual psychosocial development during the period of middle adolescence. We have been investigating the influence of social changes on the process, content, and context of self-definition in middle adolescence for three decades. Cohorts of Czech adolescents (aged 14-17) from the beginning of nineties (data collected 1992), from the beginning of the millennium (2001), and the cohort of adolescents from the years 2010 – 2011 are compared with the cohort of current adolescents (2019) in term of their activities and everyday life experiences (e.g., daily hassles, control beliefs for different domains of life, future expectations, coping strategies, self-esteem, life satisfaction). Furthermore, the study is also focused on adolescent’s perceptions and evaluation of micro-and macrosocial context.
